Edward sat there, staring out the window of Bella's bedroom. She was asleep, and fortunately hadn't awakened when he'd gotten up and moved himself to her rocking chair. Things were getting tough with Bella, but not relationship-wise. No, things were great in that department... it was just that she was very upset about his almost constant refusal to him changing her. He thought back to their argument from earlier and sighed softly, his voice not audible to Bella’s ears. She didn’t understand the situation from his side and he wasn’t willing to voice his fears yet.
He suspected that Bella had confided into Alice, for the smoldering gazes he had been receiving from his sister set him on edge. If Bella had indeed asked Alice to look into why he was so unwilling to change her, Edward knew that Alice would eventually figure it out and report it back to Bella. That wasn’t what worried him. He was more afraid that she would find his reason for hesitation, too uncharacteristic of him. He was far to afraid of loosing Bella and he didn’t just mean by having her killed. He was afraid that if he turned her and the turning changed her too much, she would loose herself and cease to be the Bella he fell in love with. It was a complicated web he weaved.
Looking over at Bella, Edward sighed. She was so beautiful when she slept... he wished she could be this peaceful all the time.

Bella continued to breath evenly, but her mind was running rampid. She was having another odd dream, but it seemed as though this were odder then most. She was at the Cullen house and was climbing the stairs to go into Edward's room. She heard muffled talking and when she opened the door, she noticed Edward on the floor and a girl about her age. They were talking quietly and Bella could sense the seriousness of the conversation. But neither one gave notice to her entrance, so she continued to walk towards Edward, but then she looked at the other girl. Bella gasped and realized it was her. Only... she was a vampire. She had the golden eyes, pale skin and exquisite features. But, her personality changed... The way Bella was now holding herself was more confident, completely different from her normal posture. But, before Bella could notice anymore differences, she was ripped from her dream and she felt herself groggily waking up.

Edward's gaze deepend slightly as he realized that Bella was indeed waking up. He smirked slightly to himself and for the moment stayed still. Charlie was still home, making sure that Bella didn't try anything funny. He had didn't have to imagine how purple Charlie's face would be if he knew just where Edward spent most of his nights. Sighing softly to low for Bella to hear, he shifted and leaned on his hand continuing to watch Bella while listening for any movement from Charlie.

Bella's sight gradually focused on Edward and she smiled when she saw him. She sat up and wrapped her arms around her legs as she was looking at Edward. But she didn't say anything. Not yet. She still had to make sense of that dream, if it was possible. But she couldn't really think of anything logical that could explain it. Who would really believe that she could change so much, even if she were a completely different creature. But she heard Edward moving around and she focused her attention on him again. The dream would have to wait.

Lightly colored topaz met chocolate brown and Edward made sure not to dazzle Bella too much. He didn’t want to start today off, they way they had been starting most days off since their last visit with Jacob in the forest. Edward truthfully was growing tired of fighting with Bella and wanted more than anything to put their squabbling behind them. He was sure that if Bella didn’t bring up her wanting to be changed, every chance she get things would be less tense between them.
Or he hoped that would be the case.
He knew however that it wasn’t just her wanting to be changed that was worrying him. Causing him to be irritated easily. He wished that he could put the blame on the fact that she had merely not answered his proposal, but knew that wasn’t the entire case. Yes it bother him, but not as much as Jacob’s reminder about the treaty had. He knew the points the werewolves had laid out, as well as the rest of his family did. He just couldn’t see a way around them. If I don’t turn Bella, she’ll be killed by our own kind. But if I do those werewolves will try to do the job themselves. He must have been deep in thought, for he was suddenly startled out of his thoughts by Charlie’s. With a slightly panicked gaze he turned to Bella, who he hoped was still in the room. “He’s coming up to check on you.” Edward didn’t have to specify who the he was, they both knew who it was. “I should probably go…”

Bella nodded, but didn't give any sign of disappointment. In reality, she was all to glad to get back to figuring out what that dream meant. But she knew Edward would be waiting for a reply, so she said quietly, "I'll see you later, in about an hour or so, okay?"
She didn't wait for an affirmative from Edward, nor did she even make note whether he left the room. Bella simply focused on the dream. It was impossible to figure out. But she could tell that once she figured out it's meaning, she wouldn't like it.

Edward disappeared as he normally did, moments before the door opened and Charlie looked in on Bella. His eyes widened slightly when he realized that he’d been caught and gave her a sheepish grin. He honestly hadn’t expected her to be up yet, it was after all only quarter after nine. Nonetheless he opened the door and stepped into her room. “Morning honey” He said with a smile as he sat down on the end of the bed. It was a prime motive that indicated he wanted to talk.

Bella was ripped from her thoughts again and noticed Charlie at the end of the bed. 'What have I done now?' Bella thought as she gave her father a "Good morning." He just gave her sheepish look, but he didn't seem able to say what ever he was going to say.

Charlie gazed at Bella and knew that despite how much he loved her, he should have never pressured her into coming to Forks. Her life to his knowledge didn’t exist without sunny beaches and hot weather. Something she would never find in Forks. Bella had been doing a good job at pretending to be happy here, even if it was for him and for a while he had bought it. However he soon realized that she was moving into the wrong crowd. Hanging out with that Edward boy far too often for his liking. She had even started to drift away from Jacob, her oldest friend in Forks. Charlie wondered why he hadn’t listened to Billy in the first place?
He knew what he had to do, even though he was positive it would result in a fight. He had to make Bella go back home. Running a hand threw his graying hair he meet Bella’s questioning gaze with a smile that was all to fake. Slowly he spoke. “Bella… I’ve been talking to Renee, and we both feel it’s in your best interest if you returned to Phoenix and stay with your mom. Permanently.”

This grabbed Bella's full attention. Bella gave him a shocked look and then she took a deep breath and calmly said, "Fine, I'll move out." She could see that Charlie was about to protest. "You can't make me go back to Renee," Bella paused to make sure that Charlie was really listening. It seemed as if he was. "I'll move out if you want me to go somewhere."
Charlie looked surprised, though Bella had already told him all this. She wouldn't leave, not without Edward. And Charlie couldn't make her leave Forks.

Charlie shook his head. Her going somewhere wasn’t what he wanted. He wanted her away from Edward. Somewhere safe and sound, a place where he didn’t have to worry about her doing god knows what with him and his estrange family. Charlie sighed softly and gazed at her. “Bella please be reasonable. You hate Forks. The only reason you’re staying is because of him!” Charlie wouldn’t even say Edward’s name, too afraid of giving him any sense of power. “He’s a danger to you Bella, and you don’t even see it”
He knew that anything he said was going in one ear and out the other, so he tried a diffrent approach. "I don't want you to leave Bella. I love you, love having you here. What I want is for you to cut ties with the Cullen boy." He met her gaze evenly. "He's changing you Bel, little by little."

'So this is what this is about...' Bella let out a small sigh. "He isn't changing me. I've known him the entire time I've been in Forks. If I'm changing because of him, don't you think it would have happened sooner?" Bella snuck a glimpse of Charlie's face. She couldn't tell if what she was saying was really getting through to him, but she continued. "I can't not talk to him, let alone not be around him. Its become impossible for me." Bella reached to touch her father's hand that had been lying on his leg. He looked her square in the eye and could tell she was being serious.

Charlie gazed into his daughter’s eyes and sighed softly. He knew she was completely serious and dead set on being with Edward. It didn’t matter what he or her mother said. Sighing again he linked hands with Bella’s. “We’re worried for you. I’m worried Bel. I just got you back, and here I am loosing you again.” He said softly. He didn't know what, but there was something unsual about Edward.

Bella could sense defeat, but it wouldn't be long before Charlie brought the whole thing up again. This would only be one battle in the war. But it was enough. Bella saw Charlie's eyes reflecting an uncommon emotion for him. He was trying to figure something out. It was startling, considering if he bothered enough, he could go and ask Billy if he actually had a reason for his opposition for the Cullens. Billy surely wouldn't hestitate to tell Charlie how his daughter was actually dating a vampire. But the look was gone soon enough, and Bella put it out of her mind. Edward would be coming back to the house soon.

Edward approached the front door of the Swan residence and frowned upon hearing Charlie's thoughts. He knew just how much Charlie held against him, even though he was somewhat happy that Bella had found someone she liked. He just wished it had of been anyone but himself.
Steadying himself, Edward knocked loudly on the front door hoping to break the conversaiton between Bella and her father. It would only lead to more question and perhaps even a hurtful goodbye if the sistuation continued on. He agree with Charlie however, he was taking Bella away from him, but if Charlie could understand that he wasn't as bad as he thought he was, perhaps he could let Bella go peacefully?

Bella heard the knock at the door and quickly walked to her doorway to go downstairs. Charlie remained on her bed, looking slightly dejected. Bella turned around and gave her dad a hug and whispered, "I'm fine," in his ear before she left the room and ran down the stairs to answer the door. When she opened it, Edward was there, and he had a preoccupied expression on his face, like he was thinking hard about something. 'Probably whatever Charlie is thinking at the moment,' thought Bella to herself and she said to Edward, "He's just worried about me, if thats what you're thinking about."

Edward shook his head. That wasn’t what he had been thinking about. Or well it wasn’t now. “We should tell him about the engagement. He deserves to know that much at least.” He could see that she wanted to argue, but he wouldn’t have that. “Unless you’ve changed your mind?”

'Of course he had to add that last bit,' Bella thought. 'Just trying to make me feel guilty...'
"I haven't changed my mind. Its just Charlie and you... in the same room, when the word engagment is mentioned."Bella shook her head as she pictured the scenario in her mind. It wasn't pretty. "You do remember that less is always more with Charlie, right?"

Edward shifted his stance slightly, picking up Bella's annoyance at his less than subtle way of putting his feeling to her demand of being changed in the for front of their conversation again. As much as he wanted to spend eternity with her, he still felt rather distrubed by the fact that he would be in the lack of a better word, condeming her to a world of damnation.
It seemed somewhat wrong to him.
Still shaking his head, he gave her a small smile. She didn't have to point out that Charlie would fight them till the end of time on this. Edward knew that the Cheif of police felt that he was taking his baby girl away from him, and he didn't need to read his mind to assume that. It was clearly written all over his face, and in his stance whenever he was around or brought up in conversation. "Don't worry Bella, I haven't forgotten."

Bella nodded then smiled at Edward. She would ignore the arguement for the time being. "What's on our agenda for today?" she asked him as she lead the way into the house.

"Well for one, Breakfast for the human" He said with a barest hint of a smile as he continued to follow Bella deeper into the Swan Residence. He knew that Charlie was still upstairs, sitting on Bella's bed trying to wrap his thoughts around what she had just told him. "After that I'm not too positive. Esme and Carlisle want to talk about a few things concerning the engadgement and the transfor-" He promptly shut his mouth and turned to meet Charlie's gaze his Bella's father walked down the stairs, stopping once he relaized that Edward was in the kitchen, alone with Bella.
Edward turned his gaze back to Bella once Charlie had reached the bottom step. He himself would have laughed quietly to himself, at the path his thoughts had, if he hadn't been so pre-occupied by the fact that he hadn't been able to hear or even register that Charlie had been walking down the stairs. He listened intently to Charlie's thoughts for a moment or too trying to figure out if Charlie had heard anythign about what he had been talking about. Much to his dismay, Charlie had caught the tail end of the conversation. Edward knew many questions were about to be asked and gave Bella a apologetic look, while mouthing 'sorry'

Terror ran through Bella's mind. Charlie had heard the end of Edward's sentence. And he had heard the word engagement. Yet again, Bella pictured Edward and Charlie in the same room. Charlie wasn't stupid. He would know that the engagement that Edward referenced would be between Bella and Edward.
Bella caught Edward mouthing 'sorry' to her, but she couldn't help but wonder if Edward hadn't planned this. He had just told her that Charlie should know about it. Bella sighed. It didn't matter whether Edward meant for it to happen or not. It had, and now she would have another thing to argue about with Charlie. She looked at Charlie's curious and slightly accusing face and waited for the questions to come.

Charlie gazed at Bella and slowly made his way over to where she was standing, for the moment ignoring Edward's presence next to her. "What is he talking about Bella?" The veins in his forehead were starting to pop out, a sure sign that Charlie's anger was mounting and Edward shifted slightly, unsure who he should be more afraid for?
His fiance? Or his fiance's father?

Bella didn't know whether to tell the truth or not. But then she settled for the truth and quietly said, "Edward and I are engaged. We're still working on the..." Bella's sentence faded when she saw Charlie turn a gastly white. Harry's demise came back to Bella's mind and suddenly she was worried for Charlie's health.
"Dad, maybe you should sit down and take a drink of water or something." She let Edward sit Charlie down and she walked to the cupboard to get a cup for water. She brought back a full cup and made sure her father took a sip before she attempted to continue to tell him the news.
"Dad, Edward and I are engaged. But, we're still working on all the details and we were planning on telling you. We were... we just wanted to wait for things to cool down between you and him..."Bella trailed off again. She really hated Charlie finding out this way.

Edward was use to the thoughts and feelings that constantly flowed threw his Cheif Swan's mind at the mention of his daughter and himself together. He knew he held high disregard and made his disapproval quiet apartent numerous time before hand. However anythign Charlie had thought before this moment paled in comparison to what he was thinking now.
And more so what he thought Edward would do to Bella. More so from shock than anythign else, Edward removed his hand from Charlie's shoulder as fast as he could 'humanly' do it and took a step back. He had never thought, once in his lifetime (be it as a Cold One or human) about a girl that way, and it certianly wouldn't start with Bella. Clearing his throat upon noticing Bella's slightly peaved look, Edward at least would add his own two cents in first. "Cheif Swan," He began and was quite tempted to stop at the first heated glare. Still he pressed on. "We are engaged yes, but please let me assure you. We're taking this as slow as humanly possible."

Bella watched the scene unfold and saw how badly Charlie was taking the news. And when Edward attempted to assure him, it made Bella wonder just what was going through Charlie's mind at that moment. And of course, the last phrase made Bella want to laugh, but she fought against the urge and won in the end.
She tried to regain Charlie's attention took one of his hands. "Dad, he won't hurt me again," Bella said quietly. She pleaded with her eyes for Charlie to understand that she couldn't explain how she knew this. She only wanted him to trust her on this one.

Charlie gazed up at his daughter and tried to see if she was being truthful. After everything that the Cullen boy had put her threw, why would she want to stay with him? As he tried to figure out what exactly held Bella to Edward he felt Bella take his hands in her own and knew that eventually he’d give. After all he’d do anything to keep his baby girl happy. Even if it meant, trusting her to someone he didn’t. Slowly Charlie nodded and threw in the towel. “Alright Bella, if its truly what you want. I won’t hold you back” He gave her a smile and pulled her into a hug.
Edward could see something off about it and frowned to himself. He was sure that Charlie would have tried harder, but maybe he’d merely underestimated to what length Charlie would go for his daughter. However Edward’s thoughts were changed moments later. In the silence of the room, Edward could clearly hear Charlie’s thoughts as if he’d spoken them aloud.
It doesn’t matter what it takes, I’ll figure out just who the Cullen boy really is and what he and his family is hiding.

Bella hid the look of shock on her face in her father's shoulder as he hugged her. She couldn't believe he gave in that easily, especially after fighting against this moment for so long. But it didn't matter. The fact remained that he did give in.
Bella pulled away from Charlie and began to find something to eat again. She grabbed a bowl and poured some cereal into it. She sat at the table as Charlie left the house, presumably to go to work. She started eating the cereal when Edward sat down.

Edward sat down in his normal spot at the table, watching Bella eat with slow chews. He wondered what was going threw her mind at the moment and before he knew it, the words were already out of his mouth. “What are you thinking Bella?” He gave her a curious gaze, wanting to know before he said anything.

Bella looked up at Edward shocked. Very rarely did Edward ask her what she was thinking, he had stopped after he realized she editted her thoughts. Fleetingly she went over her recent thoughts and tried to make a summary of it all.
"Well, I was just thinking how odd it was for Charlie to give in quickly. Its not like him, you know better then I do what he's been thinking about you and his lack of trust..." Bella's sentence faded off as a new thought came to her. "Could he be planning to do something else?"
As Bella contemplated it, it made more sense to her. Charlie obviously saw that she wasn't going to give in easily, so he would find something bad about Edward or the Cullens and prove her they were bad.
