Weeks had passed since Bella’s confrontation with Charlie in the woods in front of her house and Edward knew that sooner or later Bella would have to cross that bridge. He’d spent time with her, working on ways to resist the call of human blood as well as fine-tuning her other sense so she could pass a little easier in town without being overly noted. Sure it wasn’t easy, she seemed more beautiful to mortals now, but Edward could tell it was helping her. Still he kept his fears to himself. So far she’d proven him wrong in everything they’d done and that was enough to make Edward smile.
The major block in their path however was still Charlie. As it had always been, it probably always would be unless Bella could come to terms with it. Thus Edward had set up a meet between them and Charlie without Bella’s knowledge. He wanted to give her no time to fabricate ways of not letting this happen. Thus he’d merely instructed her to get into the Volvo and ask no questions. Everything would become clear in time.

Bella didn't like this get in the Volvo and no questions business. It made her uneasy, and she just knew that Edward was planning something. She sighed as she waited in the passenger side seat, not knowing what to expect from this unknown. Glancing out the window she noticed that the sun was starting to shine brighter. She made a mental note to be careful when (if?) she got out of the car in public. She couldn't let the light shine off her skin. No need to draw more attention to the changes that occured since she'd been changed. ((Does Charlie fully understand what happened when Bella nearly killed him?))

((I’m thinking no. If Charlie knew what had happened before hand with Bella, I have a feeling that there would have been more action taken on it. If we go with the route of Charlie not really knowing, it could give Bella a chance to work it out with him and come to terms with what she’s become.))
Edward slipped into the driver’s seat of the Volvo and glanced over to Bella. She’d been awfully quite since he’d directed her outside and he hoped that she wasn’t too mad with him. Putting the car into gear he backed down the lane before turning the car around. The ride into town was quiet, nothing really being said between them. Finally at the point where Edward couldn’t take the silence anymore he turned to Bella taking his eyes off the road for a moment. “Must you be this way? You know I would never do anything to harm you. I just think its time to move on. Don’t you?”

((Okay, sounds good. I just wasn't sure... because of the previous encounter Charlie had with Edward.)
Bella snapped her head over to look straight at Edward. She was surprised he had said anything, the ride had been silent. "Move on from what?" Nothing major had happened that she wasn't convinced she was over (or mostly over). True, every night she begged whatever god there might be that Charlie might someday forgive her and she could forgive herself, but there wasn't anything that Bella could see that would get her truly at peace with it. But everything else was fine. She had gotten used to her new diet, her favourite was bear as well, but her hunting style wasn't indicative such as Edward and Emmett. Though she had to admit, mountain lions weren't bad. Still, to think he'd go this far to get her 'over' what ever it may be that he thinks she's over... She glared at Edward, she had the increasing feeling that this trip had something to do with Charlie. And if things didn't work out, the results could be disastrous.

Edward kept his gaze even with Bella’s not letting it show just how much it pained him to have her look at him like that. With a soft sigh and a shake of his head, Edward merely focused his gaze back onto the road and shifted his hands on the wheel of the Volvo slightly. Just a slight shift enough to tighten his grip, but it was a clear sign that he was irritated. Maybe he should have just done nothing and let Bella think she was in control. Let her come to it at her own pace. “We don’t have to go.” He said finally not looking over at her. “He isn’t expecting us or anything.”

"So we are going to Charlie." She was slightly surprised, but looked out of the window at the passing scenary. She'd go along, she didn't want to be difficult. "I suppose I'm as ready as I'll ever be." She looked back to Edward, hoping that he had become less irritated. She knew that she hadn't been making things easy for him. Her hand twitched, she wanted to touch him, but she didn't know if that would make things better. So she settled with a quiet thank you.

He barely caught the lightly whispered Thank you, but he knew it wasn’t easy for her to admit. It was no secret that for the most part, she had gone out of her way to make things hard between them. Whatever her reasons were Edward had done his best to not let her get to him. He cared for her far too much to let this come between them. He’d gone at her pace, offering what he could when things seemed a little too overwhelming for Bella. Together they’d made it threw and now all Bella had to do was make amends with her father.
“You don’t need to thank me Bella. I’m always going to be here for you. That won’t change, no matter what happens with your father.” He said glancing over at her for a moment. The tension he’d been feeling disappeared once he knew that Bella didn’t hate him. “How did you want to do this?”

Bella thought for a moment, twisting and untwisting her fingers. "I guess... Just talk to him. I mean, he's obviously going to react badly to this. But, what is he going to do? Other then possibly disown me. "He tells people, they'll either laugh at him and call him crazy, or the Quiletes will hear about it and start this war." Bella still believed, somewhere within her mind, that Charlie would still love her, no matter how disgusted he was by the truth. He wouldn't tell the Quiltetes once he realized just how likely a war was if the pack heard about it. He wouldn't do that, would he? Bella nodded, simply talking to him was the only way. "If we explain things efficently, I think he'll be okay." She briefly paused and then said with more conviction, "Things'll be okay."

He nodded, his eyes on the road once more. "That's the spirit Bella. Give Charlie a reason not to be scared anymore." Frankly, Edward wasn't sure what else they could do. He had his whole world turned upside down on him and Edward hoped they could help him make sense of it. If they couldn't and Charlie was pushed to a point where he sided with the Quiletes, well they'd cross that bridge if they came to it.

Bella gave a single nod. She felt a tiny smile on the corners of her mouth, but she didn't give in. This was serious, if things didn't go well... He would side with the Quiletes. And she couldn't have her own father against her on this. It was bad enough being against Jake. She sighed, all traces of a smile gone from her face. She knew they were nearing her house, and she quietly asked Edward, "What's he thinking?" Suddenly she was nervous, she'd need to know what kind of a state of mind he was in to find the perfect approach to this situation.

Edward had been thinking of the worst possible outcomes of this meet and hadn’t actually heard Bella’s questions. He glanced over to her again, hoping she’d repeat herself. Though judging from the look on her face, Edward could easily piece together what she’d asked him. She wanted to know what Charlie was thinking right now. Edward was reluctant, to even listen.
This week had been fairly mellow, for whatever reason Charlie had been not thinking of Bella or this mess he found himself in and that had both worried and relieved Edward. It was as selfish as it sounded – a welcome break for him. With a sigh he focused on Charlie picking up easily what he was currently pondering over. “He’s thinking over his vacation plans I think. Fishing?” Edward glanced over to Bella, to make sure this was normal. “Your dad fishes?” It was the first thing that came to Edwards mind and he prayed it didn’t set Bella off.
It was plainly obvious that Charlie wasn’t thinking about Bella at the moment. In fact, as Edward dug deeper around in Charlie’s mind he found no sense of resentment or anger. This could mean one of two things. Either he had finally come to terms with it, or he had pushed it from his mind and refused to believe it. There was a silence in the Volvo again and Edward rested his gaze back on the road. Suddenly the short distance between the entrance to Forks and the Swan residence didn’t seem far enough away.
(( So we can decide if Charlie’s accepted it or not.))

"Yes, he fishes..." Bella trailed off. She didn't know what else to say. He wasn't thinking about what had happened? That wasn't... right. Something had happened. What if he hated her, and just left it at that? Or he could still love her, and known she was safe with Edward. Not knowing was going to drive her insane... Timidly, she asked, "Anything else?". She knew her hope was ridiculous, Edward wouldn't keep something from her. Not when it concerned her father. But hope is hope because it doesn't die, no matter what. She looked at him expectantly.
((I don't really care whether he is alright with it or not, but I don't think that in reality he would be okay with it. I think he'd decide to 'hate' her. And I say hate like that because, its not the real hate, its the angry hate, that doesn't let you see past it... I hope that makes sense.))

Charlie’s deep thoughts revealed only one thing to Edward and it hadn’t been what either he nor Isabella had been hoping for. This unannounced meeting seemed to be turning into a bigger disaster than he had originally planned for and knew that if they continued, Charlie would probably end up telling Bella what he really felt. Edward, being able to hear Charlie’s thought understood where they were coming from. He had always distrusted Edward, solely upon the fact that he was Bella’s boyfriend. He was different than the rest of the Forks population and therefore automatically put the Chief on suspicion when he started dating Bella.
However now that Charlie knew about Edward and his family. Knew what they were, his fears of losing Bella to Edward, had grew into a fury. Charlie hated Edward, merely for the fact that he couldn’t understand what Edward was. Going to Billy and the werewolves had only given Charlie the half of the picture, but he wouldn’t dare go to the Cullen’s. They would forever stay in Charlie’s mind as the ‘monsters’ and with Bella having been turned by Edward, Charlie’s hate had pulled her into the same category. In his eyes, his daughter had died that day. The Bella he saw now, it wasn’t his Bella. It walked, it talked like Bella, but it wasn’t her. That was the part, which Edward and Bella had to get Charlie to understand. That they weren’t the evil monsters that the werewolves believed them to be. Not all vampires turned out like James and Victoria.
Taking his eyes off the road once again, Edward looked at Bella. He wanted to tell her, what she wanted to hear so badly. That Charlie was okay with everything, but Edward knew he wasn’t. “I’m sorry Bella, but this won’t be the meeting you were hoping for.”
((Makes perfect sense. People as a whole, fear what they can't understand.))

Bella sharply turned her head to look directly at Edward. She couldn't have heard him right. But the words were still echoing in her head, she knew he wouldn't have said that if he didn't have to. She could tell, things were going to go badly. She knew what Edward had probably found that Charlie wasn't too fond of either of them and he was believing the werewolves. They told him before, they had explained the best they could... The Cullens (and now Bella) were not the monsters. No one needed to be the monster. But, if the werewolves had gotten to Charlie, he would be fully convinced there was a monster... And the Cullens filled that role. If only there was someway that she could make him believe otherwise. Even after a few moments, she had nothing. But maybe Edward did... "Anyway that we can convince him that we're not the creatures that the werewolves think we are?" Briefly it occured to her it was the first time she identified herself with the Cullens outloud. She thought it sounded good.

Edward hated the fact that he didn’t have an answer for Bella. It irritated him greatly to know that she was really counting on him to think of something. Sighing low enough that had she still be human, she wouldn’t have been able to hear him, he merely shook his head. What was left that they could tell Charlie, which he hadn’t already heard?
His grip on the wheel tightened, as the moments passed. A few more minutes and they’d be outside of the Swan residence and they still had no real idea of how to approach this situation. Their gazes met again and he held her crimson one trying to figure out what she was thinking. Even now, her thoughts remained as much of a mystery as they had when she’d been a human. “We don’t have to do this, not right now. We can go home, talk with Alice…” Make a plan that perhaps won’t fail like this one is sure too.

Bella was taken aback. Did he really think it would go that badly? She could tell from his grip on the wheel, he did. She took her hand and ran it through her hair as she debated the options. They could get it over now, and be done with it. Or they could get Alice's advice and maybe even Alice's help. Charlie had always enjoyed Alice much more then any of the other Cullens. Would he be more willing to listen to her? Probably. "Alice might put Charlie more at ease..." Bella let out a sigh of surrender. She had been ready to get it done, the sooner she could deal with whatever Charlie had decided. But what mattered was acheiving an understanding, and if Alice made the chances of that greater, so be it.

The decision had been made silently then. They would consult Alice before confronting Charlie about anything. Edward agree with Bella though, Alice could possible have a better chance of persuading Charlie than he or Bella herself could anymore. His grip on the wheel loosened considerably and he returned his gaze to the road. “Did you have anything you wished to do?” While he would be content to return home, if Bella had something she wanted to do, this would be the perfect time to do so.
Silently he waited for a response, his thoughts returning to Charlie. He would keep a close eye on him. The last thing Edward wanted was for Bella’s father to go and do something rash.

Taking in a deep breath, Bella bowed her head and stared at her hands in her lap. There was only one thing she wished to do, and that would have to wait. Softly, she answered, "No, not for now." She took a glimpse at Edward and hoped that he would understand. After a moment, she returned her gaze to her folded hands.
Alice was their only plan right now. There was no back up plan. And if it didn't work, what were they to do? Although Charlie was charmed by Alice before, would he continue to feel the same towards her even after all that had transpired? Her thoughts kept her in silence, until she realized they had passed Charlie's house. Had she still been human, she would've felt some tears falling down her cheeks. But as it was, she was a vampire. So she only watched the house disappear from sight. Internally, she vowed that she would talk to Charlie, and soon. And hopefully with Alice and Edward at her side.
She looked at Edward and asked, " Where is Alice now?"
