Gabrielle entered the cafeteria, her headphones on full blast. She couldn't hear anybody speak, although she did see someone mouth "turn those down." She didn't oblige their request, however, and kept walking. She wasn't going to do what these shallow clones wanted her to do. If the music's too loud, you're too old. She smirked.
The entire cafeteria was almost full, save for an empty table at the back. It was across the room from the Cullens, which suited her just fine. She didn't want to be around any of them, anyway. Ever since Edward's attack, she'd disliked them all the more. Well, except for Esme. Despite the fact that the woman was a vampire, she liked her. Gabrielle wouldn't admit the affection to anyone, but she liked the woman a lot more than she liked most of the people she went to school with.
Sitting down, Gabrielle pulled a book out of her backpack. The book read "Traditions and Encounters" and was the official AP World History textbook. This was one of the few classes she enjoyed here, as it was one of the few classes where she actually spoke up in. The kids in the class still didn't like her, but she didn't care. She enjoyed discussing ancient history. "Nomadic Empires and Eurasian Integration," she quietly read out the title to chapter 18.
The half millenium frm 1000 to 1500 C.E. differed markedly from earlier eras. She began to read.

Edward glanced up from his uneaten plate of food the moment Gabrielle had entered the lunch room. He remember the deal he and Esme made and sighed softly. She had promised not to tell Carlsile or anyone else from the family including Bella as long as he went to Gabrielle and apologized for his behaviour. Thus Edward in attempt to keep this little secret safe from his fiance and the rest of his family found himself trekking around the Lunch Room in Gabrielle's general direciton.
Standing at the edge of her table he watched for a few moments. "I'm not stupid, you can pretending you don't see me all you want, but I'm not leaving until he talk. I'll even skip Bio to follow you around if I must. All I'm asking is for you to listen to me."

She looked up at him, pulling off her headphones. "Listen to this," she said, holding up her textbook, "Turkish peoples never formed a single, homogeneous group, but rather organized themselves into clans and tribes that often fought bitterly against one another." She made a face, and set the book down. "Fascinating, isn't it, what history can teach us? I love history. It tells me how to live and how not to live my life. My father used to tell me, you know, before he died, that history repeats itself. I have always believed this. Do you believe it, Edward? Do you believe that what happens in history will repeat itself over and over again until somebody gets smart and learns from their ancestors?"

Edward gazed down at Gabrielle before taking a seat across from her. “What are you getting at? It’s a proven fact that history repeats it self. I’ve seen it myself.” He said folding his hands on the table. “But what’s your point. You wouldn’t be tolerating my presence unless you had a purpose. Another message from your wolf?”

"Actually, no. I haven't seen Jacob in two days. But there is a message in what I'm saying, but I'm not going to give it to you. I want you to dwell on it, and think about what it could mean."
Attila the Hun, she thought, almost took down Rome. Atilla was the only real threat to the empire. What does Atilla represent, Edward? She knew good and well that Edward could read her thoughts, and thusly tried as hard as she could to keep them cryptic, and to keep her true meaning hidden. What does Rome represent in this little equation?

Edward fought to urge to roll his eyes. He didn’t have the patience nor the time to play her little cryptic message games. “I’m not here to solve riddles with you. I’m here merely to say that my actions the other night were unacceptable. While you might not think it, I had no intention of harming you. I’m not that bloodthirsty.” He rose from the table. “We’re not the ones you think we are.” Even as he walked back to his table, back to the questioning glances from Bella and Alice her words echoed threw Edward’s mind. What does Rome represent in this little equation? Edward sure didn't have a clue, but he knew it wouldn't let him have any peace now.

Gabrielle let herself smile this time. "Apology accepted." She said out loud, to her own surprise. "And all vampires are the vampires I think they are." She said this as quiet as possible, knowing he would be able to hear her. "Vampires drink blood," she looked down at her textbook to make it seem like she was reading out of it, "blood is the force of all life. You still crave for human blood, and that's enough of a reason to think you all the same. You can deny it all you want, but all vampires, in essense, are exactly the same. You may choose not to live off of humans, but that is not enough. Definitely not enough..."
She thought of her father and the mysterious figure that had dropped him onto the floor that night at the Superdome. Her father was, when they found him the next morning, drained of all blood. It wasn't until she moved here that she knew what had happened to him. You can't blame me for hating you.

Edward glanced back at her, his topaz eyes holding her for a moment or two before he finally mouthed back. Yes I can Edward and his family were nothing like the vampire that killed her father and she knew that. Turning from her, he tried to block her thoughts out.

Gabrielle gathered her books and stood up, puting her headphones back on. She looked at Edward, and when he didn't reply to her, she shrugged and walked off. Remember Rome, Edward! She laughed inwardly. He was a smart guy, or at least he should be, after having lived so long. He would figure out what it meant sooner or later.
Not that it mattered, of course. To him, it was just a cryptic message from a stupid, human girl. But to Gabrielle it was a lifeline.
She shook her head again and headed out of the lunch room.

Bella was sitting at the table with the Cullens as usual. She was puzzled when Edward stood up and talked with the new girl, Gabrielle. She didn't know that they knew eachother. It seemed that she didn't particularly enjoy Edward's presence, and Bella wondered under what pretenses they had met. She waited for Edward to return when she saw Edward stand again and the girl leaving her table soon after.

As Edward crossed the lunchroom again, he thought about what Gabrielle has said. Digging a little deeper into his memeories tryign to recall just who Attilia was and what his significane to Rome indicated. All he could remember was that, Attilia was perhaps the only threat to Rome that they really should have worried about, and it was because of her that Rome fell. How did that fit into their lives at the moment? What was Gabrielle tryign to tell him?
He reached the table and sat back down, not saying a word to anyone at the table still trying to figure out what the clue was. SHe had to be comparing it ot a recent event, one that would have the lives of everyone around them. Mulling it over and over, Edward finally let hte subject drop when he couldn't figure it out. Maybe Esme or Carlslie would be able to make more sense of it.

Bella looked at his face when he sat back down. His eyes were puzzled, and his forehead was creased in concentration. She couldn't figure out what could have puzzled him after a small conversation with Gabrielle. "Edward?" she said quietly, hoping to pull him out of his thoughts.

Edward glanced up at Bella, pulled totally out of his thoughts. "What?" He asked thankful for the momentary distraction.

He shook his head. “I’m sorry, I was just thinking about something. Her thoughts, they’re intriguing to say the very least. Tell me Bella, what do you know about Rome. Or more the fall of the city.” Edward gazed at her, wondering just what she knew. Maybe he with her help, could piece together the puzzle Gabrielle had left him.

'Rome?' Bella thought. It confused her, but she complied with Edward's request. "The fall of Rome was brought about by a man named... oh God... what's his name?" Suddenly it came to her and she continued. "The man's name was Attila. I forget just how he brought down the empire though..."

“Well that makes two of us then.” He shakes his head. “You going to Bio?” He asked her softly. He honestly wasn’t sure if he’d be able to concentrate enough in Bio. What she had said, this whole Rome comparison was really getting to him now.

He nodded. "Yeah, not like I need the class to graduate." He said with a shrug. "I just don't think I'll be able to concentrate. Its just something she said about the Rome riddle, its really irritating me."

Bella was taken aback. The Rome thing came from Gabrielle? "What were you two discussing when she mentioned Rome? Maybe that has a clue to what she means." Bella gave Edward a smile. "You'll figure it out."

"Even so, its information I'd rather not let you devulge in. It was merely stuff about us and the war/treaty. Nothing knew." Except for the fact that I'm sure she's comparing you to Attila.... only question is then, who's Rome

"Oh." Bella murmered. She looked down at her food and picked up an apple and took a bite out of it. She felt shut out. Though, she supposed Edward had his reasons.

Edward glanced at Bella and sighed softly upon seeing the look on her face. "Oh alright, this is just a theory but I beleive she's comparing you to Attila." He said softly, not daring to mention the real reason as to why he'd been going over to see her.

"Oh..."Bella murmered again. Attila brought Rome down... What could someone think that she was bringing down? Then it hit her like a ton of bricks. Gabrielle knew about the Cullens. From what Bella had heard, Gabrielle was Jake's girlfriend. Jake surely would've told her about them. And the werewolves thought that Bella was going to destory the Cullens and start the war. Bella sighed with her new found understanding.

Edward tilted his head raising an eyebrow in doing so. "You peiced it out did you?" He asked softly? However her forlorn smile was the only thing he got in return he wrapped an arm around her shoulder, pulling her to him. "Listen to me Bella. Rome won't happen again. You will not tear us apart. We'll only grow stronger. The wolves are wrong about you, about us."
